Carbonite Online Backup

Service Info

Company Name Carbonite
Website Website (new window)
Online or Local Online
Pricing $54.95/year for unlimited backup
Product(s) One size fits all
Carbonite installs a small software program on your computer that works quietly in the background looking for new and changed files to back up. It looks and feels like part of your computer, and is integrated with your desktop, so there’s nothing new to learn.Have you considered how much of your life is on your computer? Photos, emails, music, financial records, documents, and so much more. How would you feel if you woke up tomorrow and everything was gone?

The statistics are staggering: every year 43% of computer users lose irreplaceable files. Dangers lurk around every corner - hard drive crashes, theft, power surges, natural disasters, or accidentally deleting your own files. You need to be aware that losing your most valuable files is a very real possibility. You need to take proper precautions.

Backup Services Review

Price Paid 20% Off
Pros Automatic. Unattended.
Cons Doesn't back up certain directories without manual override. Occasionally the Carbonite Service will eat up resources. If you pause it, it'll come back fine.

Carbonite can only be used in certain circumstances. It works for us because our data backup file doesn't contain any .exe files, videos files, etc. As long as you know what you're doing, you can save a ton of money using Carbonite.

Backup Services Review

Price Paid $90 for 2 years
Pros Very easy to use - just install and right-click any folder to backup. Very good pricing - how can you beat $45/yr for unlimited backup?
Cons Does not back up any .exe files, video files (not automatically anyway), or files that are not on the actual hard drive. Will slow down your system if you have an enormous amount of fiels backed up - if you do, disable the Carbonite icons that visually tell you if a file is backed up.
