What do you like?
Ongoing improvements to software are great.
We started using business mgmt portion of program about seven years ago when RLI shut down.
Final quarter 2012 and all of 2013 we have used exam portion of program. We currently use it on 10 workstations.
I find program much easier to work with compared to the frustrating Med Flow / Allscripts combination I use in another clinic.
I am 59 and my staff is a little younger, not computer savy, and we have been able to work with the program. If I can use it ,anyone can.
What needs work?
Lab interface
VSP interface
Exam report letters are much better than they were one year ago but still could be improved.
E-prescribe module is more expensive than I would like.

What do you like?
I waited for a long time to find a system that works with Apple/Mac. This EHR on our Macbook Airs is awesome. It takes a little while, but we are now faster than paper exam forms and more efficient than ever. Because this program worked with our existing hardware (IMACs), my hardware investment was minimal (compared to others I had heard had to invest in newer equipment). Practice Director's certification and ease of use allowed us to achieve meaningful use very quickly (the first few months were tough and the decrease in exams to compensate for the learning new EHR should be taken into consideration on how much money switching to EHR really costs). If we add up everything within the investment (EHR program costs, equipment costs, loss of revenue during switch over time...etc) we still made money and are now ready for the future.
What needs work?
Needs better (faster) intergration (scanning) of previous documents directly into patients EHR. Needs to be able to communicate with equipment better on Mac systems (but that is more of a problem having MAC because the instruments don't directly communicate with MAC at all).

Bringing Practice Director To My Office Was The Right Decision

What do you like?
This is a wonderful product that is in a great transition phase! I have had Practice Director for a year now and you can see the dedication to improving the product in the recent improved updates in the EHR section from Practice Director. I have been in practice for 20 years and realize the importance of the office software to let my staff work as efficiently as possible. In the previous 19 years I had only used one ophthalmic software program with great success. Unfortunately, my previous software was not going to allow me to achieve meaningful use. After doing research, I liked the fact that Practice Director had both an in office server and back up to the cloud. (The internet service in our area can be unreliable, so to be cloud only seemed to be too much of a risk). I like that I can run Practice Director from my Macs or a PC. I like how Practice Director has the ability to link to other equipment in my office. Finding an appropriate diagnostic code and procedure code through the search system saves time instead of referring to hardcopy sources. The ability of the software to 'score' your findings through the EHR and suggest a 99XXX code is still common, but very appreciated. Having the use of E-Prescribing through the DrFirst eRx partner has been a pleasure. I didn't realize how nice it would be to get rid of the Rx pad, or calling the pharmacy. With all the aforementioned features, the EHR is has a nice look, flow and overall is efficient compared to other EHR software available. For a smaller office, some of the EHR software can be cost prohibitive. Practice Director is very affordable for my office.

I believe my staff is very progressive and innovative and we expect Practice Director support to meet our needs. The support staff has been very good for providing the feedback we need for us to maximize our use of Practice Director. When the Practice Director software doesn't have capabilities of what we need to do, we are encouraged to provide Practice Director with feedback to improve the software. Some feedback we have provided will be implemented into the next update of Practice Director of improving statistic (The seven core statistics requested if you have used Williams Group as a consultant) at the push of a button. Having this feature added was one of the reason I used Williams Group as a consultant. As a long time and reputable provider of services to optometrists, it is a unique bonus to gain advice about your practice and to have the software to assist you in achieving your goals.
What needs work?
Personally, I would like a pop up style of sheet you could adjust to fit your specialty (I personally am looking for a glaucoma flow sheet. The contact lens history is pretty good). I would be nice to be able to reduce "clicks" and to be able to flow into and out of the EHR into the other aspects of the practice management sections (ex. demographic / invoicing / dispensary). Allowing for more keystrokes and less dependence on the mouse to work within Practice Director. Compression of the EHR newsletter to involve less pages. The ability to add patient instruction to the clinical summary (if allowable by meaningful use / HIPPA regulations. The invoicing and statements area needs improving and I am looking forward the improvements there. Having the ability to enter information into the dispensary module and to have it export directly to our lab to single enter our spectacle and contact lens orders is greatly anticipated.

What do you like?
I have worked with other systems and Practice Director is, by far, the EHR system that has worked the best for my practice. The examination "flow" to the EHR works very well and I am now able to data input an exam faster than on paper. My staff is very pleased with the ease of the scheduler, posting charges, payments etc. We also enjoy the optical / dispensary functions of the software. Customer support has been great. I usually have someone actually answer the phone on the first call. I like the fact that the company seems to be open to ideas and input from the users and I have seen some of my ideas already implemented. The price was right for my size practice also.
What needs work?
Referral reports need work.
Need to integrate with portal to send job orders directly to labs. I have been assured that this is a top priority and in the works soon.

Choosing Practice Director was the best decision I made for my practice!

Choosing this software turned out to be the best decision that I made when opening my practice. I love the system’s ability to implement all aspects of my business from the EMR to Scheduling to Accounting, and of course Billing. Everything is tied together in a very sensible, easy-to-understand format. Above all else, the customer support at Practice Director is unmatched. The support staff genuinely cares about the clients, and they are always able to answer my questions. I highly recommend Practice Director to anyone who is starting a practice, making the switch from paper to electronic records, or making a change from a different software.
