Workable if you're an IT professional, otherwise avoid it like herpes
Overall I have grown to loathe AdvancedMD. It's a shame because if they got their act together it wouldn't be a terrible EMR. I've used them all: Cerner, Centricity, EMA, Nextgen, Allscripts, ECW, DrChrono - they are all flawed in some way. The advantages of AMD is that you can customize things. The disadvantage is that it is the single most poorly run and dysfunctional company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. If they could fix their inability to support users then it would be a reasonable software program. If EMA ever gets less 'dumb' and more customizable, or if Dr Chrono gives up on being iPad based, we would change immediately.
The PM side is pretty solid for financials, albeit slow and unattractive to use. Reports are generally pretty good except there are missing reports...for example you can't run a report to get names and email addresses to build an email marketing list.
Setup: It takes 20 hours to setup the software (masterfiles). You get minimal assistance from the company. Out of box templates are useless. You need an IT background to create useful and workable templates. The training person we had for the EHR side was completely useless. He couldn't answer a single question we asked him; he tried to look things up, but usually we had found the solution ourselves before he got back to us. I would negotiate the entire setup fee out since there is nothing that they do for you.
Support: The support does not exist. I agree with the other reviewer who said that it seems like their departments do not communicate. I'm not sure if everybody who works there is just dumb, incompetent or lazy. Emails go unanswered. Tickets go unresolved. For example, AMD advertises that they have direct links with a credit card processing company - Paypros. However, whenever anything goes wrong (which happens quite a bit) neither side will help you as they view it as the other person's problem. Lack of useful, timely and competent support is the single biggest weakness of this EMR. If you are a practice that needs support then you should avoid this at all costs.
Uptime: Not good. Their servers go down without warning. For a cloud based service they do not have robust backup solutions that ensure a clinical level of uptime. Despite a fast internet connection we still have issues with a slow response from their servers in terms of ping times.
Design: The interface looks to have been designed by an undergraduate CS major. Data inputs (see adding new meds) is not intuitive.
Look elsewhere for an EHR solution!
Horrible support. The software is very buggy, and it takes months to get anything fixed. Since we have had the software, we have lost prescription ability twice. We have lost our lab interface twice.
I opened a case about our lab results in June of 2011, and the case is still not resolved.
I dread calling support because the support staff has evidently not been properly trained, as they are not familiar with basic medical office terminology, nor are they at all familiar with a lot of terms relating to the EHR software.
I have to call constantly to check on support cases, because I am never updated. When I do receive a call-back, it is normally outside of work hours. Also, nearly every time I open a case, several days later I'll get an e-mail back from the support team wanting the exact same information that I gave when I called in in the first place.
The hold times for support usually top twenty minutes, and then when you finally get someone, they tell you that you have to talk to the person who is working on your case and transfer you to their voice mail. These voice mails are never returned.
It seems that there is a complete breakdown in communication between departments. Management could care less about your business and refuse to return calls or emails as well.
If not for the fact that it would waste so much time and energy to migrate my information to a different EHR provider, I would have terminted my relationship with AdvancedMD months ago.
Bottom line is, the system works halfway decently, but if anything goes wrong, good luck getting it fixed.
Do not waste your time or money on this system!
I LOVE IT
AdvancedEMR seriously makes life so much easier for me. The upgrade we made a couple months ago has allowed us to not dread going through the database. It is so easy to use. I love it. Here is a link to their software page at http://www.advancedmd.com/products-solutions/emr-ehr/. See for yourself.
