What do you like?
Uprise is a clean, well organized system that has a nice intuitive design. Very few clicks are required. The system is fast and has easy data input. The patient portal is great and it actually allows for patients to put in their full medical & ROS history and it all uploads to the exam! (You would think all EHRs would do this, but a fully uploaded complete ROS is very rare. This saves about 2-3 minutes of technician time per patient for us, which really adds up by the end of the day and directly translates to more exams in a day). I can't say enough great things about their portal... It's clean, it has FULL ROS, and it doesn't unnecessary questions. I hope they never change this. Their auto coding works well too, and the ICD10 feature seems to be ready for the change. Their recall feature is probably the best I've seen.
What needs work?
The physical exam screen needs to allow for a monocular exam. For example, based on my understanding, a post-op cataract exam can not be preformed on only one eye. The normal values populate as if both eyes were examined. I believe this same scenario would occur if examing one eye for an infection (like an ulcer, herpetic infection, preseptal ect) and also for all monocular trauma causes. I believe the same would be true for all follow-up exams on these type of patients.

Also, there are several medical findings not available in the physical exam screen. For example, I don't believe there is a way to list or grade anterior chamber responses. Cell and/or flare was not an input option that I could ever find. Iritis was present, but this would not always apply, especially in a post-operative setting. I also could not find a listing for corneal striae, conjunctival injection, and a several more basic findings that are typically entered for post-op exams or mild medical documentation.

I get the impression Uprise is not currently set up to see medical optometric exams. Based on my demo I have reservations about the compatibility for those practices seeing a lot of diabetic exams, glaucoma exams, infections, and post operative exams. I think these issues can easily be fixed within their system, it may just take several complaints from medically practicing ODs to force the adaptation. I did not get a chance to see if individualized treatment plans for 1 day, 1 week, & 1 month post operative plans were available. If that's important to your practice, I would inquire if these individualized plans could be made for the different exam follow up dates.
